Swift, Innovative Response to Phenol Line Leak Emergency

CLIENT CHALLENGE

• The client faced a critical issue with a clogged 8-inch phenol line leak with a large hole that had formed in the vertical line to vessel.
• An emergency call was made to Colt to respond quickly with a repair solution.
• Traditional methods involving removal, welding, pre- and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT), and non-destructive examination (NDE) were deemed impractical due to the extensive downtime they would entail.

COLT SOLUTION

• Colt leveraged innovative carbon fiber reinforcement technology combined with heat treatment.
• Hydroblasting was performed to clear the line, and then higher temperature-resistant carbon fiber wraps, along with heat blankets, were applied for the final stage cure.
• Downtime was minimized significantly.
• Colt’s approach delivered a swift resolution without compromising quality or safety.
